Biography
From 1980, skateboarding made its mark on urban popular culture. In 1986, at 11 years old, young Koston started skateboarding after his older brother, Chris Koston, gave him his first skateboard.
He then attended a specialized skateboarding camp in Michigan (USA) where he met skater Eddie Elguera (two-time world champion).
In 1991, Eric was sponsored by H-Street, and he turned Pro in 1993, joining the Girl team. In 1996, he co-founded Fourstar Clothing with Guy Mariano, a brand that thrived for over 20 years.
He then won the gold medal in 2002 at the Gravity Games and the gold medal in 2003 at the X Games (Street), and was named « Skater of the Year » by Thrasher Magazine. Eric was described as fearless, taking risks to test new combos and tricks during competitions. His signature trick, the K Grind.
Eric is the inventor of the K-Grind, now known as the Crooked Grind. He’s also the first skater to land a « One-foot Nosegrind » on a rail, and to pull off special tricks in competitions like Hang-Ten Nosegrinds (this trick involves sticking both feet together during the grind) or Hang-Ten Nose Manuals on picnic tables.
In 2005, as the lead skater for the éS team, Eric Koston competed in over 20 competitions worldwide, earning him the nickname « Eric’s Game of SKATE, » making his name a household word.
He made his film debut participating in the iconic Jackass « The Movie » in 2002 and repeated the experience in « Jackass 3D » in 2010.
