« Tampa Pro »
What is it?
« Tampa Pro » is a professional skateboarding competition held annually in Tampa, Florida (United States).
The competition takes place at the Tampa skatepark, and a new course is designed each year.
The Tampa skatepark is known for its history but not for its comfort zone when it comes to skateboarding due to its confined space.
« Tampa Pro » has been a must-attend street skateboarding event for a long time; almost all pros have ridden it. It’s famous for being a contest for pros, but also for amateurs.
To understand the importance of « Tampa Pro », here’s the list of iconic skaters who have won it, starting with Mike Vallely in its first year in 1995, followed by Eric Koston the following year, then Andrew Reynolds, and so on until Nyjah Huston in 2020.
The most iconic pro street skateboarding event in the world celebrates its 27th anniversary in 2021, making it one of the oldest skateboarding competitions.
If you can attend, you’re lucky, otherwise you can connect to the live webcast (official event website).

Qualifications
All former « Tampa Pro » winners are pre-qualified for the semifinals!
Skaters are separated into heats of approximately 15 to 20 participants. Each skater gets 2 one-minute runs, and only the best run counts:
- The top 2 qualifiers get a « Straight Shot » to the finals.
- Participants from 3 to 30 qualify for the semifinals.
How are skaters judged?
« Tampa Pro » is judged by a panel of five judges.
These 5 judges are former pro skaters with deep roots in skateboarding and industry respect.
Runs are judged on a total of 100 points, judges award scores based on:
– Difficulty of tricks
– Style
– Technique
– Variety of tricks
– Use of the course
– Flow
– Consistency<
– Originality
From the scores given by the 5 judges, the highest and lowest are removed, and an average of the remaining three scores is taken to determine the final score. In case of a tie, the scores from the second heats are used to break it.
