Skateboarding in Curitiba: 1.01 Points Decided the Title — and What's Really at Stake Is Way Bigger

From September 4 to 6, 2026, Curitiba’s Complexo Esportivo Tarumã hosted the season opener of the Circuito Banco do Brasil de Skate. Four titles up for grabs, street and park. And one number that sums up the whole weekend: 1.01 points between the winner and the runner-up.

The four podiums in Curitiba

In men’s street, Wallace Gabriel edged out Sebastian Simonetto by 1.01 points. On the women’s side, Duda Ribeiro won on this course for the second time — she said it herself right after her run: “This is my second first place here.”

In park, both titles went to Dan Sabino on the men’s side, with 89.50 points in the final, and Fernanda Tonissi on the women’s, with 79.00. 1.01 points: it all came down to the last attempt

The street format on this circuit runs in two parts: open runs, then a set of single-trick attempts. That’s where the points swing. Wallace Gabriel and Duda Ribeiro both pulled a score above 9 on their very last attempt — what the circuit calls the 9 Club. Two tricks, two titles, with seconds left on the clock.

Wallace Gabriel said it as he stepped off the course: “On that last trick, the crowd felt it with me when I rolled away. That means a lot to a skater, you feel that energy inside you.” Duda Ribeiro zeroed in on something else — the Curitiba cold in September: “I’m not big on skating in the cold, your body cools down faster. Even so, I managed to skate well.” Curitiba in September is not Rio: up on the Paraná plateau, late afternoon turns cold fast. That matters when your footing depends on loose ankles.

The official broadcast runs start to finish: qualifiers, semis, then the street and park finals back to back on the Brazilian federation’s live channel. The street finals also aired on SporTV 3. If you want to catch Wallace Gabriel’s last attempt, it’s in the final third of the stream.

Kelvin Hoefler, Olympic medalist, finishes 7th with 88.28

This is the result nobody saw coming. Kelvin Hoefler, Olympic silver in Tokyo in 2021 and sixth in Paris in 2024, rolled into Curitiba as the outright favorite. He wound up 7th, second to last in the final, with 88.28 points — barely half of Wallace Gabriel’s total.

And it’s not a one-off: the best-trick format shows zero mercy to anyone who bails twice in a row. Hoefler ran into the same math at Tampa Pro 2026, where he finished 3rd behind Jagger Eaton and Yuto Horigome. In Curitiba, Brazil’s new generation gave him nothing. Which is exactly what this circuit is built to do.

Free entry, 200,000 reais on the line: the Tarumã bet

Total prize money for the stop was 200,000 reais, roughly 34,000 euros. The public got in free, Saturday and Sunday alike. That’s been the Brazilian model for a decade now: pay the riders, open the gates, and let the crowd do the rest.

Around the course, the activations told you how much money was behind this: SLS caps and a Rayssa Leal–signed board in a raffle, busted old decks traded in for keychains, food-truck discounts for bank customers. You can call it heavily branded. You can also note that in France, no national skate contest is putting up 34,000 euros in prize money and a live broadcast on a sports channel.

What’s really at stake: a spot in Street League 2027

Here’s the real prize, and it doesn’t fit on a check. The street side of this circuit is sanctioned by Street League Skateboarding under the Select Series banner. Direct consequence: after all three stops, the street circuit champions earn a spot at an SLS Championship Tour 2027 event — the world tour, the one where you line up next to Yuto Horigome, Rayssa Leal and Nyjah Huston.

For a Brazilian skater with neither the world ranking nor the sponsors to land an invite, that’s the only realistic way in. A ticket to an SLS stop means global exposure, contracts that start moving, and a ranking that resets from scratch. So yeah: Wallace Gabriel and Duda Ribeiro leave Curitiba with a whole lot more than a check. They leave with the lead in a circuit whose overall winner gets into Street League. Two stops left: Barueri, September 25–27, then Salvador, November 6–8. That’s where it settles for real, in Bahia.

Why this matters over here

Brazil turns out street skaters at the rate of a country that figured out a national contest is a ladder, not a finish line. Three stops, a direct line to the world tour, a free broadcast: the path is legible for a 16-year-old kid in Curitiba. Look at the podium from the last SLS Tempe and count the nationalities: those are exactly the countries that built this kind of ladder.
