On February 15, 2026, a 16-year-old kid did something no one had ever done in 16 years of Street League. Seven tricks. Seven scores above 9. Ginwoo Onodera just redefined what’s possible on a board. And it was his birthday.

Who is Ginwoo Onodera?

If you don’t know this name yet, remember it well. Ginwoo Onodera was born on February 15, 2010, in Yokohama, Japan. He discovered skateboarding at 5, after seeing a board at Venice Beach during a California vacation. Five years later, he signed with Jart Skateboards. At 13, he became the youngest street world champion. You get the picture?

His sponsors? Nike SB, Red Bull, Jart Skateboards, Bones Wheels, Ace Trucks. In short, he rolls with the elite. But what sets him apart isn’t his sponsor list. It’s his way of skating. Tony Hawk said he skates like a video game. And after Sydney, everyone understood why.

SLS Sydney: The Perfect Night

Sydney Olympic Park. February 15, 2026. Over 10,000 spectators in the Ken Rosewall Arena. The first stop of the SLS 2026 season was set to be electric. But no one was ready for what was about to happen.

Ginwoo steps onto the course for his first run. He links tricks with an irrational fluidity. 9.1. The crowd erupts. Second run: 9.4. The other riders look at each other. Then come the individual tricks. One by one. 9.1. 9.2. 9.5. 9.0. 9.2. Every score above the mythical threshold.

In 16 years of Street League Skateboarding’s existence, no one had ever managed to score 9 on all 7 attempts. Not even Nyjah. Not even Yuto. Ginwoo just did it. On his 16th birthday. This isn’t a movie script, it’s real.

The 7 Tricks That Changed Everything

Here’s the breakdown of each attempt. Every line, every trick. An absolute flawless performance that will go down in competitive skateboarding history.

Total score: 37.3 points. The best male performance in SLS history. Julian Agliardi (35.5) and Giovanni Vianna (34.7) complete the podium, but they’re light-years away from the Japanese skater. When we tell you this kid is on another level, it’s not just talk.

Flip In, Slide, Flip Out
Ginwoo’s signature. He links flip tricks into and out of slides with surgical precision. Kickflip backside tailslide, switch 270 lipslide, half-cab flip. All without a tremor, at the speed of a fast-forwarded clip.

From Yokohama to the Top of the World

Ginwoo’s journey is the kind of thing that makes you want to grab your board right away.

2015
Discovers skateboarding in Venice Beach, California. He’s 5 years old.
2018
Joins Jart Skateboards’ amateur team. He’s 8 years old.
2023
Street world champion in Sharjah. The youngest in history at 13. Gold at X Games Chiba the same year.
2024
Paris Olympics. 14th. Not his day. But he’s 14 and he’s at the Games.
2025
Wins the SLS Super Crown Championship with 37.3 points. Turns pro with Jart in December.
2026
SLS Sydney. 7/7 above 9. On his 16th birthday. The legend truly begins.

In just 3 years of top-level competition, Ginwoo already has a world gold medal, an SLS Super Crown title, and a historic record. Nyjah Huston said of him: « A very talented little guy with a huge future ahead of him. » Coming from the GOAT, that sets the bar.

What’s Next: SLS Los Angeles in Sight

Next stop for Ginwoo: SLS Los Angeles on April 4, 2026, in downtown LA. After what he did in Sydney, all eyes will be on him. Can he repeat a 7/7? Can he go even higher than 37.3?

One thing is for sure: competitive skateboarding has a new boss. He’s 16, he’s from Yokohama, and he’s dropping 9+ scores with his eyes closed. Welcome to the Onodera era. We all need to follow this closely.

We’re preparing a full preview of SLS Los Angeles with Nyjah Huston’s return after his skull fracture. Stay tuned.
