Paris has spots the whole world knows by heart. Paris also has security guards, anti-skate studs and neighbours who call after six minutes. Both are true at the same time.

We went back over the ten spots that actually matter — from the marble at Le Dôme to the slabs of La Défense — and ranked them by level, by terrain and above all by real-world status: who leaves you alone, who moves you on, and at what time. Out of the ten, only one can be skated without ever looking over your shoulder. It sits at the bottom of the list, and it is not the one you expect.

The answer is EGP18, on boulevard Ney in the 18th: 3,500 m² of poured concrete opened in February 2008, roofed in timber since 2010, free to enter — the largest covered concrete skatepark in France. Everywhere else in Paris you are negotiating something: an opening window, a guard, a resident, building works, or a listed-monument status. There, you negotiate nothing. The trade-off is honest: it is a park, not the street. When the Bercy skatepark reopens after its rebuild, Paris will have two of them. Two, for a city of two million people.
