What Sydney Changed
On February 15, skateboarding shifted. Ginwoo Onodera, 16 years old that very day, delivered the greatest individual performance in SLS history. Seven tricks, seven scores above 9. The famous 9 Club — a feat no one had ever achieved in competition.
His total of 37.3 points obliterated the field. Julian Agliardi, second with 35.5, and Giovanni Vianna, third with 34.7, didn’t disappoint. They just faced an alien. This kid rides for Jart Skateboards and he just redefined the ceiling of street skateboarding.
The question everyone is asking now: can anyone compete with that in Los Angeles?
The DTLA Roster: Who’s There
SLS dropped the roster, and it’s no joke. Chris Joslin, Thrasher SOTY 2025, arrives with the status of the man to beat. His tre flip at El Toro made history. He’s riding at home, in LA. He’s going to want to make his mark in front of his crowd.
Nyjah Huston, Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist, returns after a skull fracture late last year. A comeback in DTLA? The scenario is too good not to believe. Jagger Eaton, an Olympic medalist himself, completes an explosive American trio.

On the women’s side, Chloe Covell, 16, pick #1 of the XGL Draft 2026, will look to confirm her phenom status. And Ginwoo Onodera, the reigning champion, arrives with the pressure of having everything to lose.
The Course and Format
Ace Mission Studios, in the heart of Downtown LA. SLS built a custom course with a massive stair set and technical features designed to push limits. Ledges, rails, gaps — each section is an NBD trap.
The format remains the one that made SLS successful: two 45-second runs, then five best trick attempts. The Wildcard Jam, presented by Stake, opens the day and offers up-and-comers a chance to qualify for the men’s final. It’s the gateway for future stars.

More Than a Contest: The DTLA Festival
SLS went big on production. Mike Shinoda, Linkin Park co-founder, narrated the official trailer. Graffiti artist SABER designed the campaign’s visual identity. Skateboarding, art, and LA — the perfect triangle.

On the program: Nitro Circus performances, art and culture activations, local food trucks, and all-day DJ sets. It’s not just a contest. It’s an event telling the world that street skating was born in LA, and it’s coming back strong.
In fact, skateboarding protective gear has been out of stock in LA shops since the announcement. The hype is real.
Our Prediction
Onodera is the logical favorite. But skateboarding has never been logical. Chris Joslin has the hunger, the crowd, and a stair set built for his hammers. Nyjah returns with something to prove. And the Wildcard could reveal a name we don’t know yet.
On April 4, Downtown LA becomes the center of the skateboarding world. And we’ll be there to cover it all.
